Reflection

Dear Mrs Cardenas,

Over the last 5 weeks I have put together a blog about me and my “home”. I was very hesitant at first because I never thought I could think of enough interesting things to write about. Some of my friends have recently made one of their own so I thought it would be cool to give it a try.

I used the genres you told us to each week. I was confused on them at first but once I started thinking about it the genres you gave us really helped me to really dig deep and think outside of the box on how to do the post. The feedback from my writing group really helped me to finish off each of my posts. I think if i wouldn't have had their feedback my blog wouldn't have had that little extra piece in each of them. They helped me to really see what I needed to look at and work on.

Honestly, the most challenging part was figuring out what exactly I was going to write about in each post. I thought home was a good topic because it was a good way for me to really think about my hometown and everything it has to offer. I will take my feedback and the things I learned from you into my future writing and writing classes. You always help me to look at the bigger picture in my writing. When you ask “what are you trying to say here?” Makes me step back and think of the question myself because sometimes I don't even know what i’m really trying to say. I will also take with me the blog itself. I think a blog is such a great way to express myself and inspire others.

When you read my blog I would like you to look at how I took the genres and applied them to my blog. I would like you to tell my how well I expressed each of them and what I need to work on when doing those types of genres. Thank you so much for all the time you put into helping all of us better ourselves and our writing.

Home Away From Home

My dad has always been the type of person to get a crazy idea in his head and go for it. The time he decided to go buy a camper was no different. He started looking around at our local RV Resort and ended up finding a decent one for sale. He took everyone in the family to go see it, him and my mom met with the owner multiple times and a few short weeks later we had our own little spot at the RV Resort.

I was not too fond about the whole idea. I wanted a camper that we could drive around to different campgrounds and explore all kinds of places. Everyone else in my family was all for the idea.

They spent a lot of time getting things set up. They had to clear out our spot so we could put the camper in. They added little finishing touches, got our jet skis and golf cart out their. They even bought a boat.

After about a month or so the camper was all ready and my dad and my niece and nephew started spending the night. I still wasn't too comfortable with it and I wouldn't stay out there.

It has been almost two years since we have had our camper and it has honestly been an amazing addition to our family. It is a great way for all of us to go and spend time together as a family.

Pool Room

I feel like there is staple restaurant in every little town. In my town it is the Claremont Cafe, or as most people call it the “Pool Room.” You're probably wondering why on earth is it referred to the Pool Room, so It got that name because there is actually a place right beside it that older people used to go and play pool and they would order through a little window that connected the two places.

This little hole in the wall, old, rundown looking restaurant sits right in the middle of downtown. It is open from 6am to 2pm Monday- Saturday. You will walk in and see locals from wall to wall. You order right when you walk in the door, watch your food being cooked, walk to the end, pay in cash, get your food, and go try to find an empty table. It is a very old timey restaurant with lots of pictures from back in the day of our little town. If you go for breakfast get livermush, who doesn't love a good livermush sandwich? If you go for lunch you have to get a juicy cheeseburger with tater tots on the side, and a good foam togo cup of sweet tea.

The pool room is notorious for their amazingly delicious greasy food. You will leave smelling just like the restaurant. It is the most disgusting yet greatest smell ever. If you were to step foot in there you would probably question if they have a decent sanitary rating, but I promise a few flies never hurt anyone. There are some old men that come Monday-Saturday for breakfast and will sit and talk all day long. Some will even get lunch while they are there. It is the best little place to go and chat with some of your next door neighbors, you are always guaranteed to run into someone that you know.

This is definitely not the most glamorous place to go but is by far the best place in the world. There is nothing quite like a good ol’ greasy meal from the Pool Room.
